Unsympathetic even during a national emergency

My husband & I stayed at this hotel in November for our anniversary. The location was the only draw. It is steps away from the Broadway theaters, and going to shows is our only purpose for coming to the city. The rooms are tiny and and not fancy, a step above a hostel; there isn't even an elevator, but the location is fantastic. We booked months in advance for my birthday weekend in March, then the Corona virus struck. NY declared a state of emergency, the Broadway theaters closed their doors, a national state of emergency was declared, and all non-essential travel has been warned against. We called the hotel to try to cancel in these unprecedented and unforseen circumstances. We were told we couldn't, despite the NATIONAL STATE OF EMERGENCY!! Airlines and 99% of hotels are realizing that customer relationships should be valued and these are extenuating circumstances that should be handled with common sense for public health and with understanding. We even asked if the hotel could keep our money and just reschedule us for later this year. Again, we were denied. This hotel does not care about its guests' well-being at all, and they just lost years of what would have been a return guest based only on their location. Learn how to treat your customers, especially during a national emergency.

Solo traveler friendly

The location is close to the Greyhound Bus terminal, which is a convenience for me as I traveled to NYC by bus. It is very near to Times Square and the center of the action. The bed and room are more than adequate for a solo traveler, as is the bathroom. There are free tea, coffee, and hot chocolate in the basement lounge area. My room was on the fifth floor (uppermost) and there is no elevator. I only brought a duffel bag so no big deal, though they offer to bring your luggage up to your room. Picking up water or hot drinks from the basement became a good sports exercise.

Really nice stay!

This is located in Time Square right by so many theaters. Therefore, if you are watching a Broadway show like myself in the evening, it would be a super easy walk back to your hotel. The hotel seems very new and renovated. The beds are very comfortable and clean. They give you duvet blankets that are changed for each guest. I slept very well because of this. The washrooms are very tiny. After you shower the water will splash through the entire floor. In general, it's a tiny room but it's worth it for the cleanliness. There is only 1 issue I have which is the walls are thin. They do provide you with ear plugs and I needed it for 2 nights. At times there are some rude guest in the hotel that would hang out in the hallway and talk very loud at 2 am waking you up. Therefore, the only thing I would recommend the front desk to do is to remind guest who are in the hallway talking loudly to quiet down. (However, I think it can be intimidating for the reception to do this).

4 night break

I really can’t fault this hotel! No lift but your bags are brought upstairs for you and if you need to leave your bags in the hotel on your last day while you explore then you just leave them in your room so no navigating the stairs! We chose a room facing onto 8th Avenue. Ear plugs are provided but we never needed them, slept perfectly fine. Rooms were really comfortable and had everything we needed. Yes, they are small, but for my friend and I it worked perfectly fine. The bathroom door is a kind of slide across one which may be an issue for some but there is one downstairs you could use if you wanted to I guess. The room downstairs was a great addition, you could go in there to chill out or eat food you had brought back with you If too tired to eat out and I do have some pictures of this I’ll add! Location wise the hotel was in a perfect spot. 5 mins walk to Times Square if you wanted to go there and under 10 mins for us to get to watch Wicked also which was great as we went to do the ticket lottery on Sat evening. Other than that we avoided Times Square at night as it’s hard to move! We were two girls in our late 20’s and felt fine in the area walking back from shows and Madison Square Gardens. Great base for exploring and really excellent value for money too! (We enjoyed westway diner and Patzeria Family and Friends which were near the hotel- I’ll attach pictures again).

Excellent value and location

Decided to go to NYC for a concert at The Garden. Ended up booking this hotel because the location was central to everything and it was inexpensive by New York standards. The staff were very kind and always available. The rooms were a little small but felt cozy and was very clean. The noise of the city wasn’t an issue even though they provide complimentary ear plugs. Just beware if you’re on a higher floor you’re going to get a great workout because there is no elevator. If you’re planning a trip to NYC solo or with a friend/partner strongly consider NYC rooms.
