The Square Hotel offers a convenient location near Times Square and Theater District attractions, though some guests report significant issues with cleanliness and room condition. Staff responsiveness varies, with some visits being praised while others are noted as unhelpful.
Staying so close to Times Square I was amazed that we got such a decent place for such a good price. Nothing fancy, but it was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Only stayed for 3 nights and there was nothing really to complain about.
As a frequent NYC traveller, it's not been my favorite hotel to stay but for the price, you get what you pay for. It's convenient for the theater district, staff were friendly enough. The lower floors are fairly noisy from the street night life, and the very bright Wicked sign may be an issue for some. My biggest problem is having rebooked and paid months in advance for another stay, cancelled us on short notice with no explanation. Stuck with paying hundreds more for a last minute booking now
We did not originally book here. We were at their sister hotel, the Bentley, which randomly closed. We were transferred to Square Hotel. The location is great! You are close to most theaters and plenty of eateries. The staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. We had a deluxe king room. It is the average size room you would expect in NY in this price range. It was clean and comfortable. We were on the E (5th) floor. There is a window unit in the room which was even to keep you cool in that size room. The only thing I didn't like about that unit was when it rained, the rain would hit it and make it sound like it was breaking. A little annoying through the night, but not the worst. The other interesting thing was, like most hotels, rooms share walls with other rooms. It was funny that when the room next to us would go in the bathroom, the glass around our mirror in our bathroom would illuminate. You couldn't see into their bathroom, just interesting. Overall we had a great stay.
There was lots of horror reviews so I was anxious going. We had a deluxe room so we may have avoided the worst. The room was very basic but clean and comfortable. We didn't have a street window so there was very little noise and the bed was comfy. No complaints and a great base to walk everywhere.
Giving 2 stars for location and early check in. Other than that I’d never stay here again. To say the room was small would be understated. No room for fridge, microwave and barely for small amount of luggage. The shower shelf was broken, the “heater” barely worked and there were strange noises coming from the bathroom all night (like someone was wrenching on pipes). Not to mention we had a first floor room next to elevators and restrooms and could hear people and loud noises all night. In reading others reviews with the general respond of ‘this is highly unusual’ it seems just the opposite. I even gave my feedback upon checkout which was met with a simple thank you for the feedback.
Giving the hotel two stars because of central location and the wonderful service from the staff like Dhalia and Sean. Everything else leaves much to be desired. The “standard double room” (C11) I got was tiny, i couldn’t open the door if my standard medium sized (check in) suitcase was open. Also, the toilet door couldn’t close fully and there was a huge crack in the mirror. Worst still, when I arrived on Tuesday night, I found a cup of beer under my bed (with a drop of beer left!!) and 2 almonds right by the bedside. The only saving grace was that the staff were quick to clean the room the next day, after I had informed them of this. Overall, I don’t think the room was worth it. I had also stayed at a hostel just 7 streets away in this trip. Despite having to share a room and bathroom, it was much cleaner and more spacious, and half the price! As much as I loved the service of the staff at Square Hotel, I will be staying at the hostel instead next time.
Val at the front desk was absolutely amazing, as well as the concierge who was also very helpful. My rating comes from the poor level of room service. We arrived on Friday. On Sunday I attended the front desk to advise we really needed clean towels. The lady working at the front desk was most unhelpful and proceeded to advise that they service the room every 3 days and it wasn't due until Monday. I advised that our wet towels were in a pile on the floor of our room and needed to be changed. We went out for the day and upon our return staff had entered our room, left clean towels and also left a pile of wet dirty towels sitting on the floor of our room. Location is great, however would probably not return or recommend.
I loved it! They dropped the ball with my early check in as my flight landed at 6 am but they were so quick to clear up a room for me. The room was clean and not as small as the pictures in previous reviews indicated! I loved my room. The restroom was not small ! It was perfect! Front desk super friendly and helpful! It is an a great location and I got a great deal for it! Also, after checking out, they still held my bags for free since my shuttle didn’t pick me up until 4pm. So, I got to explore the city some more before leaving and checking out! Totally recommend! I’m totally staying at this hotel again when visiting NY
