The Michelangelo New York offers spacious, luxury accommodations in a prime midtown location near Times Square and Central Park. Guests frequently praise the friendly and professional staff, though some note that the property is showing signs of age compared to newer hotels.
First of all, I wanna fo a shoutout to the staff of this lovely hotel. I drove to NY to pick up my cat. And he got lost. Elizabeth, the front desk was very helpful and patient with me throughout the night cause this was past midnight. I literally had to inconvenience the whole floor. Leslie the security manager and the rest of the staff were so helpful trying to find my cat. I am beyond greatfullll. This hiteknis at the center of everything by the way. Its close to Central Park witg an affordable price!:) will come back again! Breakfast was phenomenal.!!!!
This place was complete LUXURY!!!! It was so much fun. They have their own dining room and the bathrooms were really nice to. The service was awesome to. Though their snacks in the hotel room were quite expensive they made our new York trip 10x better! Their is also quite a few places to go eat around outside the hotel. One of their workers offered us a gift card to a delicious Italian pastries bakery.
Beautiful, comfortable hotel in an excellent location. The rooms are very spacious, although somewhat lacking in natural light. But really nice and clean. Unfortunately, despite these positives, I would not stay here again. After a warm welcome at check-in, the service at reception felt noticeably less attentive, and we often felt that our questions were an inconvenience. Additionally, no assistance was offered with our luggage at check-out. Overall, the level of service did not meet expectations.
Our stay here in February 2026 was a two night stay we were upgraded to a junior suite. The hotel staff was very professional, helpful and friendly our entire stay. We were able to drop off our luggage early before our room was ready. Our room had many amenities and was very comfortable. Once we figured out the thermostat we got it cooled down comfortably. My only negative comment is that the hotel seems a bit worn and tired in spaces. Most of the drawers/cupboards in our room were loose on hinges or didn’t sit right. This had nothing to do with the comfort of our stay, only purely visual and functional. We loved staying there and would stay again.
My staycation was truly a great experience, and a huge part of that was because of Kendric. He genuinely goes above and beyond for every guest. From check-in to check-out, he was professional, attentive, and incredibly welcoming. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. He made sure I had everything I needed, answered all my questions with patience, and handled everything with such a positive attitude. What stood out most is how personable and kind he is. He doesn’t just “do his job”, he makes you feel valued and appreciated as a guest. That level of hospitality makes all the difference. It’s rare to find someone who combines professionalism with such a warm, friendly personality. The rooms at the hotel were spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The hotel is also in a prime location with Stardust Diner, Applebee’s, McDonald’s, and a deli nearby, which made it super convenient whenever I wanted to grab something to eat. Because of Kendric and the overall experience, I will definitely be coming back. Exceptional service like that deserves to be recognized!
The doorman was excellent — genuinely friendly, professional, and by far the highlight of the stay. He truly deserves recognition for his service. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience did not live up to the same standard. The overall staff felt quite disengaged, and the bar has very unusual opening hours — it wasn’t even possible to get a coffee during the day. A major issue was the lack of transparency regarding additional fees. Several extra charges were added on top of the room rate, without being clearly communicated in advance. At checkout, we were unexpectedly charged an additional $102, despite having already paying a $500 deposit. When I asked about the $45 daily residential fee, the staff simply referred to it as being included somewhere in the disclaimer. In my view, this is not transparent or fair, and it gives the impression that fees are intentionally hidden rather than clearly disclosed. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who values honesty and clarity in pricing. Once again, the doorman was outstanding and deserves a raise.
The least expensive luxury hotel in town. Most luxury hotels are $300-$500 more per night. And what is special about the Michelangelo is the size of the rooms. HUGE compared to the tiny boxes other hotels are offering these days. The staff is extremely friendly and it has a great, non-snobby but elegant feel. The only downside is you don't get designer hand lotion and toothpaste or fancy furniture. Worth it!
We had an overall pleasant stay at the hotel during our city trip. The staff at the reception were extremely helpful and friendly, and the doorman and bellhop were cheerful and always ready to assist with any questions. The rooms themselves were adequate, slightly dated, but clean. The hotel offers a range of useful amenities, including a gym, hairdryers, and bathrobes. However, there are some notable drawbacks. The hotel is very poorly insulated, and street noise can be heard clearly in the rooms, almost as if the windows were open. We strongly recommend bringing earplugs for a restful night’s sleep. A significant concern for us was the service at the bar, specifically from one staff member, Shawn A. Unfortunately, we found his behavior to be extremely unprofessional. He was consistently unfriendly, barely acknowledged us, and took our order with obvious reluctance. As a result, we chose not to leave a tip. Shawn responded by making a sarcastic remark about this to another guest in our presence. This behavior is in our opinion unacceptable and does not reflect the professional standards one would expect at a hotel of this caliber. While we understand that everyone can have an off day, we encourage management to address this issue to ensure all guests feel welcome and respected.
This was my first time staying at this hotel. The location is very convenient if you are attending shows and want to shop. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. They held our bags until the room was ready. Once we returned our room was ready and check in was fast and easy. The rooms are very spacious and clean! I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying here again!
We got an early last Monday and unlike the last review, Michele who was upgraded to a grand suite, we were greeted rudely by the tall white Concierge at 8:30 AM on October 6th 2025. We had emailed and said we would be on a redeye and kindly requested an early check-in. When we got to the front desk, a very rude and abrupt man just asked her last name, when said we had requested the early check-in which he just ignored and told us that they did not have any rooms available. We made the best of it, walked over to Central Park and waited for a room, which he said they would call us when it becomes available. We walked back a few hours later, exhausted, only to find out that there was a room available, he never called. The room (727) that he put us into was a dark, interior room with zero light, smelled like mildew and had stains all over the carpet. My husband walked back to the concierge and they moved us to one floor down same room, (627) same floor plan except this one had feces dripping off the toilet bowl and the bathroom floor was very sticky and disgusting. It was definitely not ready for a human being to reside in. My husband then went back and finally spoke to someone else. This manager was David. He seemed empathetic and told us to pack our stuff tomorrow just in case a room became available bc there was nothing he could do on Monday night. We had to stay the night in the poop filled room. The way that we were treated was just unforgivable. David did manage to move us to a better room later on Tuesday for which we were grateful. That should have been our initial impression of this hotel. When you look at the other reviews of people who are put in those dark interior rooms, they are not of white descent. The Concierge that we met up upon our arrival was a racist human being. The fact that he did that to us and was allowed to makes me sad for the rest of the good people who works at this hotel. That said the rooms are still older and tired, we could not see out of the windows because of the dirt and grime, the fan in the bathroom did not work. They need to upgrade. Though I’m sure there are nicer rooms that have been upgraded to give to people like Michele when they check in early. David V and June made the rest stay enjoyable. So did Theodore at the front. He was always smiling and willing to help us with anything. David, I hope you get the recognition you deserve for turning the situation around.
