The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel offers unbeatable New York City location but presents a mixed bag regarding room quality and conditions due to significant ongoing construction and renovation. While recent praise highlights excellent staff and upgraded room options, numerous guests report issues ranging from outdated and dirty interiors to excessive construction noise and unresponsive service.

?? WORST HOTEL STAY EVER! Absolute Rip-Off. Do not stay here. This hotel charges premium prices but delivers zero service in return. It was a complete waste of money, and I will never suggest this place to anyone. * Filthy, Tiny Rooms: The rooms are incredibly cramped and dirty. The carpet throughout the entire hotel is ancient, stained, and disgusting. * Horrible "Breakfast" Rationing: The breakfast is an absolute joke. You get a few pieces of bread, juice, and exactly two pieces of fruit. Everything is strictly counted. If you book for two people, they give you exactly two disposable spoons and two paper napkins. They refused to give even one extra spoon! * Arrogant, Hostile Staff: Every single staff member we encountered was rude, arrogant, and completely lacking politeness. Customer service is nonexistent. * Aggressive Tipping & No Flexibility: Early check-in was unavailable. When we asked to leave our bags in the cloakroom for just one hour, the staff immediately and aggressively demanded tips on the spot, rather than waiting for us to return and retrieve our luggage. Save your money and peace of mind. Avoid this hotel at all costs!

I stayed at the Manhattan for a recent work trip. I want to start by saying the staff were terrific in all my interactions; they did everything they could to make my stay comfortable, and their effort really showed. The location is also hard to beat if you’re working in Manhattan. That said, the condition of the room and floor I stayed on (floor 12) was a noticeable contrast to the lobby. It doesn’t appear this floor has been renovated yet. The carpet was buckling in several places, and the lighting felt harsh and sterile compared to the warm, welcoming atmosphere downstairs. I also ran into repeated issues with my keycard; it only worked about one out of every four attempts, and I had to go back to the front desk multiple times to get it reset. On one occasion, security had to come up to let me into my room. Inside the room, the tub was bubbling, the shower valves were very loose, and the overall carpet condition wasn’t great. Another concern was elevator security, as it seemed like anyone could access any floor without restriction. Overall, the staff is clearly doing their best with what they have, but the property itself feels like it’s in need of significant updates to match the level of service they’re providing.

Absolutely worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. Even crappy rundown hotels. We checked in and our room had mold visibly shown in the bathroom and smelled of mildew. The hallway outside our room is completely soaking wet from the ice machine. Then I contacted the front desk to let them know the situation and explain to them that my wife had asthma and she said well if she has asthma I suggest going to the hotel behind us because all of our rooms are going to be similar because we haven't had a major renovation yet. I then asked if we could just switch rooms and she said she had to have a manager call me back and I waited over an hour almost two to speak to the manager while we waited down in the front lobby because she was with a client that entire time or so. They said I asked about getting another room and she mentioned about them being sold out and fully booked but said that they would cancel the reservation without a problem for us. I then told them that we were going to eat and go back up and see how she felt which then the manager's reply was no. You had to make your decision now. Either we cancel it now or I won't cancel it later after she made me wait over 2 hours for her. She couldn't give me 15 minutes because she said the time was too late and they needed to know if they could sell the room to somebody else. She then denied anything about the mold even though we have pictures.

Stayed in a newly renovated room/floor, but not impressed. They got rid of the hallway carpet which was the only thing providing sound deading. You hear every elevator ding and footfall in the hall. Location is great, but no fridge in the room, and qualy of renovation is meager at best. Plumbing is reversed, lights are wired to all one switch so you can't have only bedside lights on, and impossible to open the bathroom door from the inside. Location, cleanliness, and view were good so 3 stars overall.

My partner and I have just come to the end of our trip for our 30th birthdays. Before coming, reading the reviews - we were a bit concerned with what people had said. We booked a premium room to be on the safe side. We arrived after 7 hours of flights and the staff were very nice. We were early so wandered down to Times Square until check in. Our first room unfortunately was missing a blind chain so we weren’t able to put the blind down. However, after going to reception, they were very understanding and moved us to a new room which was better and they were nothing but apologetic. Electric blinds and an amazing rainfall shower which was brilliant. The bed was comfy and it had everything we need. Yes, it may need a fresh up here and there, but those kind of things don’t bother us whatsoever. As two people that only use the room to sleep, this was ideal location for us as we were out all day everyday. Yes the hotel is currently under renovation but this only affected us one day where the carpet in the hall was getting replaced but this was all done by the time we were back. I would definitely return here but if the renovation side of things bothers you, maybe book to stay when these are all done. The 17th floor is currently getting renovated and everything 18th floor (our floor) and above are more than adequate. Please don’t let some of the reviews put you off - especially if you’re like us and are never in the room and just use it for sleeping.

3/5. It is very outdated and currently undergoing construction, so throughout the day and sometimes into the evening you can hear construction tools. It made it difficult to fully relax during the stay. My room was also near the elevator, and we could constantly hear it thumping every time it moved, which added even more noise. On the positive side, the room itself was clean. The sheets and towels were fresh and well maintained, which I appreciated. However, the room felt like it was falling apart in several places. The TV didn’t work at all because none of the channels had signal, the bathroom was very small, one of the sink handles was loose, and even the lampshade looked worn and damaged. Overall, the room clearly needs updating. The reason I still gave the hotel 3 stars instead of lower is because the location is excellent. It’s close to great restaurants, shops, and the subway, which makes getting around very convenient. Overall, it’s an okay stay if location is your top priority, but the outdated interior, maintenance issues, and construction noise were not what I expected.

One of the more uncomfortable nights of sleep I’ve had. Room was boiling hot and no ability to control the temp or open the window. Floors and carpet in the room were dirty. I have had cleaner and more comfortable stays in budget motels. It was a short overnight stay so I don’t have a sense of how the staff would have handled it, because I had to leave early the next day anyway. But people definitely should be aware that rooms are lacking. I definitely won’t be staying here again and will steer others away as well.

Room was great, spacious and clean! Location was so nice and easy, right where we wanted to be in the busy of everything. Everywhere we wanted to walk to was a 10-15 min walk. Only complaint is the heat, the room wouldn't go under 76• the whole time it was miserably hot. I did request for someone to come check, but that never happened. We also checked into our room Friday @3pm and immediately went to check the city out. Came back around 7pm and to our surprise our room was open and a housekeeper was in our room said giving us a "turn down", that was very odd as her cart was on the entire other side of the hall. Nothing was done to our room, so that was strange as hell. The rest of the stay was smooth and staff seemed fine. BUT the room was beautiful and great location!

We had a wonderful stay at The Manhattan. While initially our room left a lot to be desired, we provided feedback when prompted and the manager (Steven) acted quickly. We were given a new room and all of our concerns were addressed. The hotel is undergoing renovations so we can certainly forgive the bumps along the way - the quick and helpful customer service made this place shine and guaranteed we will happily return next time we come to the city for some broadway. It is perfectly situated for going to the theatre and a perfect near-Times-Square retreat.

We have just returned from 5 days at the Manhattan , we had concerns after reading the reviews & I am glad to say we did not experience any of the said problems from other reviews . Location -perfect Staff - very friendly Breakfast - a basic grab & go kiosk , but we enjoyed our croissant and coffee every morning ! Rooms - we upgraded via love holidays after reading the negative room reviews , we only paid an extra £125 to upgrade and the charge also then included breakfast ! The room was great, all newly renovated with a huge comfy bed , view over broadway ! Large tv and coffee machine & a lovely bathroom with toiletries . Hotel tax - when we checked in the lady said all taxes have been paid , so I just need to hold $200 for a holding deposit , on check out they then said it was actually for a facility fee and we would not be getting it back , I asked for the manager and she kindly refunded this for us ! So please be aware all taxes being paid does not include a facility fee of $40 per day per room I would definitely come back & highly recommend an upgraded room if you book as the floors for the older rooms do look very outdated
