The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel offers unbeatable New York City location but presents a mixed bag regarding room quality and conditions due to significant ongoing construction and renovation. While recent praise highlights excellent staff and upgraded room options, numerous guests report issues ranging from outdated and dirty interiors to excessive construction noise and unresponsive service.

My partner and I have just come to the end of our trip for our 30th birthdays. Before coming, reading the reviews - we were a bit concerned with what people had said. We booked a premium room to be on the safe side. We arrived after 7 hours of flights and the staff were very nice. We were early so wandered down to Times Square until check in. Our first room unfortunately was missing a blind chain so we weren’t able to put the blind down. However, after going to reception, they were very understanding and moved us to a new room which was better and they were nothing but apologetic. Electric blinds and an amazing rainfall shower which was brilliant. The bed was comfy and it had everything we need. Yes, it may need a fresh up here and there, but those kind of things don’t bother us whatsoever. As two people that only use the room to sleep, this was ideal location for us as we were out all day everyday. Yes the hotel is currently under renovation but this only affected us one day where the carpet in the hall was getting replaced but this was all done by the time we were back. I would definitely return here but if the renovation side of things bothers you, maybe book to stay when these are all done. The 17th floor is currently getting renovated and everything 18th floor (our floor) and above are more than adequate. Please don’t let some of the reviews put you off - especially if you’re like us and are never in the room and just use it for sleeping.

3/5. It is very outdated and currently undergoing construction, so throughout the day and sometimes into the evening you can hear construction tools. It made it difficult to fully relax during the stay. My room was also near the elevator, and we could constantly hear it thumping every time it moved, which added even more noise. On the positive side, the room itself was clean. The sheets and towels were fresh and well maintained, which I appreciated. However, the room felt like it was falling apart in several places. The TV didn’t work at all because none of the channels had signal, the bathroom was very small, one of the sink handles was loose, and even the lampshade looked worn and damaged. Overall, the room clearly needs updating. The reason I still gave the hotel 3 stars instead of lower is because the location is excellent. It’s close to great restaurants, shops, and the subway, which makes getting around very convenient. Overall, it’s an okay stay if location is your top priority, but the outdated interior, maintenance issues, and construction noise were not what I expected.

One of the more uncomfortable nights of sleep I’ve had. Room was boiling hot and no ability to control the temp or open the window. Floors and carpet in the room were dirty. I have had cleaner and more comfortable stays in budget motels. It was a short overnight stay so I don’t have a sense of how the staff would have handled it, because I had to leave early the next day anyway. But people definitely should be aware that rooms are lacking. I definitely won’t be staying here again and will steer others away as well.

Room was great, spacious and clean! Location was so nice and easy, right where we wanted to be in the busy of everything. Everywhere we wanted to walk to was a 10-15 min walk. Only complaint is the heat, the room wouldn't go under 76• the whole time it was miserably hot. I did request for someone to come check, but that never happened. We also checked into our room Friday @3pm and immediately went to check the city out. Came back around 7pm and to our surprise our room was open and a housekeeper was in our room said giving us a "turn down", that was very odd as her cart was on the entire other side of the hall. Nothing was done to our room, so that was strange as hell. The rest of the stay was smooth and staff seemed fine. BUT the room was beautiful and great location!

We had a wonderful stay at The Manhattan. While initially our room left a lot to be desired, we provided feedback when prompted and the manager (Steven) acted quickly. We were given a new room and all of our concerns were addressed. The hotel is undergoing renovations so we can certainly forgive the bumps along the way - the quick and helpful customer service made this place shine and guaranteed we will happily return next time we come to the city for some broadway. It is perfectly situated for going to the theatre and a perfect near-Times-Square retreat.

We have just returned from 5 days at the Manhattan , we had concerns after reading the reviews & I am glad to say we did not experience any of the said problems from other reviews . Location -perfect Staff - very friendly Breakfast - a basic grab & go kiosk , but we enjoyed our croissant and coffee every morning ! Rooms - we upgraded via love holidays after reading the negative room reviews , we only paid an extra £125 to upgrade and the charge also then included breakfast ! The room was great, all newly renovated with a huge comfy bed , view over broadway ! Large tv and coffee machine & a lovely bathroom with toiletries . Hotel tax - when we checked in the lady said all taxes have been paid , so I just need to hold $200 for a holding deposit , on check out they then said it was actually for a facility fee and we would not be getting it back , I asked for the manager and she kindly refunded this for us ! So please be aware all taxes being paid does not include a facility fee of $40 per day per room I would definitely come back & highly recommend an upgraded room if you book as the floors for the older rooms do look very outdated

This hotel was a great experience overall. We arrived and got upgraded to a king-size room — winning, right? Well… not quite. It was very basic and the shower completely gave up the next morning. I went downstairs and asked for our original room back and they sorted it straight away (credit where it’s due). Our original room was basic but comfortable, cozy, had a great view, and the shower was AMAZING (justice restored). Renovations were going on, but honestly for the price we paid, it was an absolute bargain. Breakfast wasn’t sit-down — it was a lobby queue, grab-and-go situation. You got a croissant or bagel with cream cheese, yogurt, a piece of fruit, plus coffee or tea, or orange or apple juice. Simple, but it hit the spot before heading out. I loved the American accent and the majority of the staff were friendly, made our stay comfortable, and really took care of us. Good location, tourist tax paid, concierge tipped for watching our bags — fully living my New York life. Best experience ever and I’d 100% stay here again.”** ?????

Our stay at the Manhattan hotel started the trip off disappointing! We booked are trip through are local travel agent who we've booked with multiple times and had no problems with. When booking she requested for us to have a refurbished room however upon arriving we were told that this request would be an extra $100 + tax per night due to it being valentines week. This trip was booked months in advance and we wasn't made aware from the hotel that there would be any extra charges. This would have added an extra $400 on top of what we've already paid all because its valentines week (We weren't even staying there on the actual date of valentines day). When looking on their official website the difference in price between the standard room and premium room is $39 which for are four night stay would have been only an extra $156. This amount we were willing to pay as we didn't get this option when booking however ramping up the price due to it being valentines day just seems unreasonable. Charging such a significant extra fee for a room that simply appears to be in decent, updated condition feels unreasonable and misleading. Guests should not have to pay a premium just to stay in a properly maintained room and should be informed if the price is increased due to holidays. If we were made ware of this from the begging we would have spent this extra money getting a better hotel with more value for money. The room we received was extremely outdated and old. The furniture was worn, the décor felt neglected, and the overall condition did not match the photos shown online. The space felt tired and poorly maintained. This hotel has potential when it's completely renovated and until then I wouldn't bother returning. On a more positive note we found staff to be very pleasant, we were always greeted with "good morning" or "good afternoon" when coming in and out the hotel. The hotel is also located in a great area of Times Square which is one of the main reason we picked it.

Fair warning: this hotel is under construction, and it shows. I stayed in a standard room first and later upgraded to a “premium” room for an additional $300. Unfortunately, the upgrade was not worth it. Standard room: Only book this if location is your top priority. The carpet was worn and dirty, the mattress had noticeable springs, and the room overall felt tired and poorly maintained. Premium room (paid upgrade): I regretted paying extra. The room still had multiple issues and did not feel premium at all. This experience convinced me to stick with well-known hotel chains in NYC (Hilton, Courtyard, etc.) going forward. Major issues during my stay: 1. Wi-Fi: Extremely unreliable. I was kicked off every few minutes and could not work remotely at all. But forget working; unreliable wifi in any metro area is unacceptable!!! 2. Shower: Very poor water pressure. Washing my hair was genuinely uncomfortable. 3. TV & remote: Remote barely worked. Channels were not listed, and the guide didn’t function. 4. Bedside lights: Not working on either side of the bed. 5. Bathroom: No towel hooks, which was inconvenient. 6. Cleanliness: The room was generally clean, but on the first night the shower area was absolutely disgusting. 7. Front desk service: Unfriendly and unwelcoming. I was literally told I was “paying for the location, not the room,” which says everything. 8. Security: For such a prime location, security felt lacking. When I arrived, someone outside was swinging a large metal chain, and even my Uber driver suggested waiting until we felt safe. Anyone can walk into the lobby, there are no elevator restrictions, and I had little confidence in the security presence. 9. Included Paid Breakfast: Very basic: pastries, fruit, and coffee/tea. With so many diners nearby, you’re better off eating elsewhere. One positive: Housekeeping - The woman who assisted me was professional, kind, and genuinely helpful. Bottom line: Great location, but the rooms, service, and overall experience do not justify the price, especially while construction is ongoing.

After reading some of the reviews, I wasn't looking forward to staying at this hotel. However, that all changed when I opened the door to my room. It was huge. 2 double beds, which were super comfy. A large bathroom and a great view. It does seem that if you are staying on the higher floors, 19,20,21 and 22, the rooms have been upgraded. I would definitely stay here again. I didn't have a great deal of interactions with the staff, but when I did, they were always polite and friendly. The location was also perfect.
