The Knickerbocker is an iconic, spacious Midtown hotel offering luxury suites with Times Square views, praised for its refined service and historic elegance. However, recent guests highlight significant inconsistencies; some experiences were exceptional, while others were marred by rude check-in staff, room maintenance issues, and concerning behavior from security personnel.
It’s always a gamble when it comes to hotel rooms in nyc, you never know what you’re truly going to get no matter what the pictures look like. However the Knickerbocker delivered on all fronts and will be my new go-to every time I visit the city. BRANDON at the front deck checked us in and I immediately knew by his welcoming energy and excellent service it was going to be a great stay. When he found out we were celebrating a birthday he graciously upgraded our room. Not only that, he sent up a bottle of Chardonnay and delicious birthday cake! My mom was over the moon!! The room itself was OUTSTANDING, a premier corner suite with tons of windows and views of Times Square. Room felt 5 star luxury, I’m talking four season level. Very spacious, modern, clean, comfortable. Diptyque toiletries. Beautiful spa bathroom and great bed. If it’s a hotel I don’t know I usually book the first night so that if I want to I can change, needless to say I rebooked the hotel for the rest of my trip thanks to Brandon making it such a special experience. He was so gracious, patient and quick in helping with my additional reservations making it a seamless process. THANK YOU BRANDON and hope to see at the knickerbocker again soon!
I love this beautiful, historic hotel! The staff is phenomenal and very welcoming! They are professional and make your experience memorable and luxurious. I stayed twice and I was upgraded with a breathtaking view! Room service was excellent! I can’t wait to visit again! I highly recommend! ?
My stay at The Knickerbocker Hotel was a very disappointing experience, and I do not consider this property to be a true 5-star hotel based on the level of service I received. I arrived at the hotel on time, yet I was informed that my room was not ready and had to wait approximately two hours. During this time, the front desk employee, Paula, treated me in a very rude and unprofessional manner. I spoke respectfully while standing, but she was sitting with her leg crossed, speaking to me in a condescending and arrogant tone. She ignored my questions, failed to give clear answers, appeared distracted by her phone, and showed clear annoyance toward me. This was the worst hotel check-in experience I have ever had. I have traveled to many countries, and I have never experienced such attitude, raised voices, or lack of respect toward a guest. The behavior alone made my stay extremely uncomfortable. Despite informing the hotel in advance that I wanted a room with a Times Square or street view, I was initially given a room facing a building. The following day, I was moved again to a smaller room. I felt forced to accept it because the staff had already given me the impression that they were aggressive. I felt unsafe, alone, and uncomfortable expressing my concerns, so I stayed silent. Management later contacted me and added a $100 credit to my account to compensate for the delay and incorrect room. However, this does not compensate for the emotional stress I experienced. I was on vacation and came to New York to relax and enjoy myself. I chose this hotel expecting luxury and professionalism, but instead I experienced poor treatment, bad attitude, and a complete lack of apology for the mistakes made
I stayed at this hotel recently, and while the accommodation itself was fine, the stay ended with a deeply distressing incident involving one of the doormen. At the end of our stay, the doorman behaved in a physically inappropriate and aggressive manner. As my friend and I backed away, he kept moving toward us and grabbed my friends arm. He then approached my other friend from behind and pressed his body into her without her consent. She never asked for his help, and his actions were completely unacceptable. This was not assistance. It was a violation. Most staff we dealt with afterward were supportive, however the hotel’s response overall has been disappointing. Management suggested he may have been trying to help, which is not credible. While there was no audio, the hotel confirmed CCTV footage shows him directly behind her. An internal review has taken over a month, with no clear outcome, accountability, or compensation provided. It’s hard to stay in a 5 star hotel, be assaulted and wait for over a month for a result.
Perfect location to come watch some shows on Broadway, spend time in Bryant Park, and just casually get everywhere without a need for taxis or the subway. Service was top notch, Akoya and St Cloud were phenomenal for the view & food. Only complaint was our room blackout curtain didn't work and made sleeping rough with all the outside lights/screens on the buildings and the shower door wouldn't shut fully so it leaked everywhere in the bathroom each time - a towel can only do so much!
This hotel was absolutely beautiful—spotless, well maintained, and perfectly located. I loved everything about my stay, and the New Year’s Eve party was hands down the best in the city. It was an incredible experience and well worth attending. My only minor critique is the “black tie optional” dress code. While many guests dressed elegantly and truly elevated the atmosphere, there were several attendees in very casual attire, such as jeans and sweatpants, which detracted from the formal experience others made the effort to enjoy—especially given the cost of the event. A more clearly enforced dress code would enhance an otherwise exceptional evening.
5 star guest experience and location!! The Knickerbocker Hotel delivers a standout New York City stay through execution, service, and setting. The building itself is iconic, positioned at the center of Midtown with immediate access to Times Square. That proximity made our family Christmas stay effortless. We could step out into the energy of the city and return easily whenever we needed a break. The location supported the rhythm of the trip rather than dictating it. The architecture and interior design reflect the hotel’s historic character while maintaining a modern sense of luxury. The experience, however, is defined by the staff. Every interaction felt intentional and natural. Front desk (gold stars for Janelle), breakfast (shoutout to Houssein), bell staff and concierge all demonstrated focus, warmth, and clarity. Their world-class approach placed the guest at the center and conveyed attention rather than performance. One moment captured this well. We mentioned a viral hot chocolate we had seen online and had only vague details to offer - other than TikTok thingy! The concierge treated the request seriously, researched it thoroughly, and delivered the answer with enthusiasm and follow through. That level of care signals a service culture that values the guest’s experience in real terms. Details throughout the stay reinforced that impression. Bedding and toiletries met a high standard. Housekeeping was consistent and discreet. Home away from home! Charlie Palmer Steak IV owned by revered restauranteur with guest appearance on Top Chef was a special treat for the family. Charlie Palmer Steak IV added meaningful value to the stay. The food was excellent, the steak expertly prepared, and the martini memorable. It worked as a destination in its own right and as part of the overall hotel experience. The Knickerbocker Hotel earned its place in our family’s holiday tradition through quality, professionalism, and thoughtful service. It belongs at the top of the list for anyone visiting New York City.
Well, what can we say, just returned home from a week at the Knic, simply superb. Checked in within minutes which was lovely after a long wait at security at JFK. Instantly offered free cookies/sweets/drinks and our luggage met us at our suite. Suite was beautiful, spacious, modern and oozed luxury. Beds were lovely and clean and comfy! Received a text from front desk letting us know if we needed anything at all, at anytime - to just text them! Used this a couple of times and response was instant! Even being on the 15th floor you could hear the NYC soundtrack below, urging us to get out and adventure! Great location right on Times Square, with subway access, Bryant Park, Macys etc all within a 5minute walk. Room service food was lovely and well priced, Jakes has a lovely vibe to enjoy a coffee and some light eats. With free coffee in the lobby on a morning, grabbing one and stepping outside to watch a quieter NYC start coming to life, is a must. Doormen were always on hand for help with taxi's, bags or lift service - always greeted with a smile. The best hotel i have stayed in, in NYC hands down and only now being at home writing this can we appreciate just exactly how good the hotel and service, were. Thank you guys and we hope to see you again in the near future ?
Hotel is in a awesome location , so close to everything. Rooms are comfortable and for being a block away from Time's Sq the rooms were quit. Staff was very friendly. The reason I am giving it only 4 stars is there was scaffolding all over the hotel, so you had the keep your blinds and the black out shades closed as there were workers walking in front of your window all day. We booked this for my 60th birthday and our anniversary and NO ONE told us about this as I probably would have stayed someplace else. The other thing was the lights at night would randomly turn on which was weird and the reason given made no sense to us.
If you look for a 5star hotel - go elsewhere. Recently booked this for a business trip. I had multiple issues when checking in (among those entering a room with other guests) and the invoice wasn’t right either. The guest manager tried to sort these out which I appreciated. The main point here is that room, food and service are not 5 star. The rooms are not in good shape with cheap furnishings (see desk photo) and the service overall is simply not 5 star. Breakfast isn’t either, it’s an airport style buffet with limited options and an uninspiring dining room. Be aware that low floor rooms are super noisy. Last thing - 45 dollars for using internet and access to the gym? It won’t be included in your room rate so it will add up. I put a photo with the amazing benefits ;) you get for 45 dollars. It’s Las Vegas resort fee copied to New York without being a resort but an aged city hotel. That’s a way to optimize short term cash flow but probably not long term loyalty. The facade of the hotel has construction and there was non informed beforehand. Don’t be fooled by the LHW branding - it’s really an odd outlier in the portfolio as I have visited many. I won’t be coming back.
