We loved it. Don't be afraid of location.

Just stayed here this week with two teenagers and my husband. Rooms large for new york standards and the bathroom was plenty big. I thought housekeeping was great as were the rest of the staff. The bar staff was slow as other reviews mentioned. If we sat at a table I always had to ask if we had a waiter or not and it still took a while. The breakfast was ok, but I don't think anything was worth the 30 dollar a day resort fee. That said, though, I would probably stay here again as we really liked the location. Stayed on the 20th floor and heard none of the time square noise.

Potential to be a 5, but fell short

Over all we were pretty happy with the hotel. The concierge was friendly as well as the front desk staff. Bar service was quite slow. This is a great location to see Broadway shows. Though they do not have an executive lounge they offer guests that would have access to an executive lounge a free breakfast in the lobby restaurant. The breakfast in the lobby was good. We stayed in room 2617...we were told this was an "upgraded" room. It was behind the elevators and though it was faint, you could hear motor noises from them. The biggest complaint I have is with general housekeeping of the room. I have been seeing similar issues in many Mariott properties lately, but we had mildew in the shower, shredded towels and the most disturbing a candy and flosser on the floor when we arrived from a previous guest. I was curious if they would clean them the next day, nope, checked in on 11/22 and they were still there when we checked out on 11/25.

Best view, best location, best staffs, Clean, lots of space

Room: We were a party of 4 and stayed in 2 double bed room in the 11th floor which had a city view. Beds were comfortable. The room was big enough for us, clean and bathroom was huge and modern. The only thing I did not like was the noise from outside and next to our room (I think it was a utility or housekeeping room). We could hear them talking and doors closing loudly. Early in the morning, someone started digging on the street like using a jack hammer which woke us up and it was impossible to go back to sleep. Location: Best location in Times Square. 6 minutes walk to Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick Cathedral. 1 min walk to the subway station. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Easy walks to broadway shows. View: The Times Square view from the lobby is amazing! We loved hanging out at the restaurant and took a bunch of pictures. If we ever go back to NYC again with my friends, we will surely come back for this spectacular view. Staffs: They have the most hospitable staffs! Their front desk and restaurants staffs and even those we interact with in the lobby (cleaning or setting up) were very friendly and exceeded my expectations for customer service. The guy at the bag storage even gave me an umbrella as souvenir since it was raining outside. It was a little bit pricey though but it was a great experience!

Too many other Bonvoy options for me to return

While a spacious and comfortable hotel, especially for NYC, the Renaissance has some downsides that prevent it from being top-rated. ROOMS The Renaissance offers rooms at a good size – about average in national standards, but above-average for Manhattan. I had a room with two doubles, not ideal but certainly not a problem. The beds themselves are comfortable, but the sheets could use an upgrade – they are a bit rough. I actually gave myself a “rug burn” on my elbow after rolling over in the night. There are USB and AC plugs on the nightstands, plus an enormous TV that has a Netflix and Hulu option. There is a standard mini-fridge and closet, and the work area is adequate with a built-in luggage rack as part of the desk itself, which I really like. Bathrooms are decent with plenty of counter space and a large tub/shower combo, however the plumbing could use some work. My showerhead was coming out of the wall (loosely), the faucet was clunky and the sink drain was very slow. It’s just not a good experience for the traveler and not up to par for the Renaissance brand. LOCATION I have mixed feelings about hotels in Times Square. On one hand, the location is convenient for walking to several areas of Manhattan. On the other, if you are on the Square side of the hotel, even with blackout shades, the monstrous lights on the buildings outside will creep into your room all night long. You also have the problem of the solicitors and hecklers that are common in this area, so forget about walking in peace at certain times of the day, not to mention the immediate area has touristy, average-to-worse restaurant options. Fortunately, it’s Manhattan and walking makes a lot of sense, so there are more options not far away. SERVICE This hotel had average service – front desk was nice and friendly, plus helpful. I didn’t notice anything special, though. It should meet expectations. AMENITIES There is a spa onsite as well as a fitness center, and the latter is certainly not bad. It has a pulley station, dumbbells and benches, plus the usual compliment of cardio machines. It also has kettlebells up to 45 lbs / 20 kg, which is always nice to see in a hotel. The ceilings are also not low, which is common in urban hotels that I’ve seen, so another added bonus. OVERALL While the hotel itself is nice, it’s not overly so, and it has a few peculiarities, such as the elevator system. From the lobby (which is tiny), you take an elevator up one level to what appears to be a full restaurant, then walk across a hall to get in another elevator that services all floors. The location isn’t great, but it’s not terrible. There are aspects of the rooms that I like but others I didn’t. With so many other options in NYC, it will be a bit tough to get me to stay here again.

Perfect stay in an excellent location!!

A friend recommended this hotel for our visit to NYC for my daughters birthday and I couldn’t be more pleased! The concierge reached out to me a few days ahead with dining, activity and entertainment options. When I mentioned we were visiting the big apple for daughters 15th bday he asked what kind of cupcakes she liked and on our first day had balloons and cupcakes delivered to our room with a personalized sign! Every request was accommodated post haste and with excellent customer service from extra lotions and waters, early check in, earplugs for a friend of ours whose child was sensitive to sound and more. Our housekeeper was delightful often engaging us in sweet conversation as we came and went. She always asked if we needed anything or if she could do anything for us. Every single person from the front desk, bellman, concierge, restaurant and bar staff all made her birthday trip exceptional! The room was spacious and we loved the New York touches (mirror, snow globe etc...) Pro trip - plan to eat at the restaurant (we liked doing breakfast) and look out the window at the hustle and bustle of Times Square! You can’t beat the location and the prices were reasonable for sure! We will be back and tell all of our friends!
