Located in the heart of Times Square, this hotel receives high praise for its unbeatable location, friendly service, and spacious rooms with great views. However, recent reviews highlight significant operational issues, including chronic broken elevators, incomplete construction, and inconsistent room cleanliness across different floors.
Stayed here for one night while we visited nyc for my wife's birthday. Young lady at the front desk was super nice and courteous. She checked us in promptly, asked us for the occasion and even gave us a complimentary upgrade to a suite on the 25th floor. Followed that up with a complimentary champagne bottle and waters. Room was nice, had a living room, two bathrooms. Excellent service and experience.
Stayed at the Renaissance Times Square. The location is considered “great,” assuming you enjoy exiting your hotel directly into a live-action obstacle course of tourists while politely declining hop-on hop-off bus pitches before you’ve had coffee. The room itself was perfectly fine, though mine came with a surprise welcome package: someone else’s leftover food smeared on the nightstand and a mystery guest’s personal shampoo still in the shower. Always nice to feel… connected to previous visitors. Be prepared for city noise at night and Olympic-level door slamming in the morning, especially when housekeeping begins their daily percussion performance just as you’re trying to sleep in. If you want to be in Times Square, this hotel absolutely delivers. Peace, quiet, and spotless attention to detail may be staying somewhere else.
The hotel staff went above and beyond to take care of us during the winter storm this week. Every single person we encountered was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful. With the added stress of trying to secure a flight out, it meant so much to be able to extend our stay for two additional nights and receive a late checkout. Having that flexibility and support truly made a difficult situation so much easier. We are so grateful for the tremendous experience and will absolutely be back. The only clarification I would note is that what appears to be a full restaurant downstairs is actually a bar that offers light snacks. However, they do have a fabulous breakfast bar and a convenient coffee/snack shop, which we really enjoyed.
I had a wonderful stay at the Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel! The location was absolutely perfect — right in the heart of Times Square and within walking distance to Broadway, Rockefeller Center, shopping, and great dining options. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful throughout my stay, and the check-in process was smooth. My room was clean, comfortable, and offered beautiful city views that made the experience even more special. I also appreciated the overall atmosphere of the hotel — modern, lively, and convenient for exploring NYC. Overall, I truly enjoyed my stay and would definitely return when visiting New York again. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to be right in the center of the action!
I stayed at three hotels in Times Square this time, and Renaissance stands out because of its people. *The staff at the ground floor are the heart of this hotel. They were dancing to the music and had such a vibrant energy that made us feel welcomed immediately. Pros: • Space: The room was surprisingly spacious—perfect for packing all our luggage on the last night. • Soundproofing: Despite being on the 6th floor, it was remarkably quiet. • Helpfulness: When our airport shuttle failed to show up, the front desk team went above and beyond to call a taxi for us. I can’t imagine getting this level of care at the Tempo hotel across the street. • The View: The 3rd-floor restaurant with wrap-around windows offers a stunning view of Times Square without the crowds. Cons: The hotel is a bit dated, and we had a broken hairdryer, but housekeeping replaced it almost instantly. A hotel’s soul is its service, and Renaissance definitely has a great soul.
From the moment we arrived, things went downhill. My car was left double parked in the middle of Times Square while I waited for valet. Families were squeezing by with suitcases, and buses were driving uncomfortably close. When I asked for the car to be moved, I was told the doorman was nowhere to be found and that he had the keys. The bellman then told me I needed to “learn to relax” because I was too worried about my car getting damaged. That response alone set the tone for the entire stay. The hotel is listed as having a restaurant. There is no restaurant, only a bar serving extremely overpriced hot dogs and chicken tenders that were barely edible. That is not what most travelers would reasonably expect when booking a hotel advertising on site dining. The room itself was also poorly maintained. The sliding bathroom door does not even have a handle on the inside, making it awkward to close or open. It feels unfinished and careless, especially at this price point. This property used to be a nice hotel. It is now an overpriced, poorly managed disappointment. I would not stay here again.
I was extremely disappointed with my stay. While the hotel is in the heart of Times Square and the location is incredibly convenient, the condition of the room was unacceptable. The bathroom had visible mold that was so severe I had to place a towel on the floor to avoid direct contact. The water pressure was very low, and even at the hottest setting the water was only lukewarm. With outside temperatures at -6 degrees, this made showering extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, the toilet was not functioning properly, and the walls and doors appeared damaged and poorly maintained. The overall cleanliness and upkeep of the room did not meet basic standards, especially for a hotel in this area and price range. The location is excellent, but the condition of the property significantly impacted my experience. I would not stay here again unless major improvements are made
We just wrapped up a three-night stay and had a great experience overall. The renovations are complete and the hotel looks really nice. All of the elevators were working, which was a big plus, and the beds were comfortable. The rooms themselves could use a bit of updating, but they were clean and well maintained. Housekeeping came in and cleaned during our stay, and the staff throughout the hotel was friendly and helpful. The location is excellent. We stayed on the 4th floor in a room with the terrace, and the view of Times Square was hands-down the highlight. Truly the best view. Our room had a king bed, which was comfortable, but the single sink was a bit of a challenge with three people sharing the space. At night, the atmosphere was surprisingly quiet. Noise levels were low, and we couldn’t hear street noise at all. The hotel itself was calm and peaceful in the evenings, which made it easy to rest. Overall, we’d absolutely stay here again. Our experience was positive and the location alone makes it worth it.
Great price, brilliant location, especially for a solo traveller. Only shame was no room service... The bar however, was so much fun, good quality menu, friendly service and the bartenders will make any drink request! Made friends in the bar, from all around the world, very social atmosphere. Terrace in my room was ridiculously spacious, with fantastic views and good amenities indoors. Quick check in/check out, and generally felt very safe staying here solo - highly recommend.
this is our current go-to hotel. it's in the center of just about everything. 2 blocks from this show, 3 blocks from that show, 4 blocks from this restaurant, etc. add in the renovations in fall 2025 that are going on to lighten up the check-in area & the 2nd floor lobby and this is just a great hotel. we stayed in a 'times square balcony' room earlier this year and it was great - fun to walk out at 11PM and 5AM and be able to drink coffee and see the city for what it is. most recent stay we were on 11 and it was still a great room / view. the staff is incredible. With the recent renovations - we didn't get a chance to deal with breakfast or the bar (October 2025) - but we peeked over and it seemed like everything was good. we'll be more expansive on the next trip.
