OYO Times Square receives mixed reviews, largely driven by its convenient location in Times Square. While some guests appreciate the affordability and friendly staff, particularly Maria, significant concerns arise regarding room cleanliness, maintenance issues, and unexpected fees. Recent stays have highlighted inconsistencies in room conditions and staff responsiveness.
I really wanted to give this hotel a 5-star review because several staff members genuinely tried hard to make things right during our stay. The first front desk employee, I believe his name was Rahim (worked Thursday night, amazing employee - kudos to him), was outstanding. He addressed our concerns, reassured us about negative reviews we had read, and walked us through everything before we even checked in. His professionalism and customer service were excellent and extremely appreciated. Unfortunately, our experience with another front desk employee, Maria, completely changed the stay. During a stressful situation where a member of our group was experiencing a panic attack, we simply asked if we could access the stairwell to get to our room instead of waiting behind approximately 40 people in line for the elevators. Maria refused and stated that she only allows people with anxiety to use the stairs. The interaction then escalated, and Maria began raising her voice, threatening removing us, and speaking to us in a way that felt threatening and intimidating. No guest should be made to feel dismissed, uncomfortable, or unsafe when asking for reasonable help during a stressful moment. This behavior did not reflect the level of hospitality shown by the rest of the staff. It is disappointing because several employees were helpful and professional, and without this incident, this could have easily been a 5-star review. Hopefully this will be corrected as we would love to stay here again. We are currently staying here through the weekend.
Checked into our hotel today and got up to our room to find the room was not cleaned properly. I went to the front desk to see if they had any available rooms that we could move to. Maria was the one helping us and she is the real deal! First of all, she checked us in and gave us a great New Yorker welcome and when I went down to change rooms she helped me again. She was on it! Dennis also helped her and he was super nice as well. They have a great front desk staff who are ready to help however they can. Thank you so much Maria & Dennis! -Ben
Overall my stay was meh. The hotel has an early 2000s vibe and needs some updating. For the price I paid, I was basically paying for the location. The room itself was small even though it was a “Deluxe King” room. The room was clean although lacking a lot of standard amenities you would normally find. There is no fridge, coffee maker or even a clock. There wasn’t enough counter space to put anything down. The luggage rack was small and would have fallen apart had I not wedged it between the wall and bed. The bath towels were really small and thin. They looked like rags you would use to wipe your car dry. The staff was very friendly and nice. They do offer to hold your luggage if you arrive before checking. Don’t count on checking in early or check out late as they charge ridiculous fees to do so. Overall it was a meh experience. I would splurge a little and check out other nearby hotels.
Arrived and got Maria as the front desk was super friendly and welcoming. Maria also helped us make sure we got the right room and were aware of how charges worked for the hotel. Jazz was amazing as front desk during check out she helped us talk to our booking agent and made sure we were happy with the stay and knew the final price. She also allowed us to store our bags till our train arrived which was really nice of the place. Anytime i have a photoshoot i will be booking with OYO because of both of these experiences. Will say the rooms are on the small side but they’re cozy and definitely enough room for 2.
Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was very disappointing. The room where I stayed with my children had neither a wardrobe nor a dresser for clothes. From check-in to check-out, we had to keep all our belongings in our suitcases. During our stay, the bed linen was not changed even once. The room was vacuumed only around the edges, just enough to make it look superficially clean. The overall cleanliness was far from acceptable. The reservation was for three people, but we were given only two small towels. When I asked for an additional towel for the third person, I was told that there were not enough available. In the bathroom, we had to wait about 10 minutes for hot water in the shower. Even worse, the bathroom was dirty, and during cleaning the staff used our body towel to wipe the floor and sink. It took only a few seconds and was extremely unhygienic and unacceptable. Additionally, the room had an unpleasant smell. It was one of the worst and smelliest rooms I have ever stayed in. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel, especially for families with children.
OYO Times Square is an okay budget option for NYC. Location is decent—close to Times Square lights and subways, though the block feels a bit sketchy at night. Rooms are basic and small (bed was comfy enough, but bathroom dated and could use updating). Service was average—staff friendly but slow on requests. It's cheap and gets the job done for a short stay if you're out exploring all day, but expect no-frills and some noise from the area.
We had the biggest room in the hotel :) it was very clean tidy walk in shower air conditioning worked well we came in nov and coming back next year tv worked The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels the bed was a little uncomfortable but more than satisfying to our needs . Maria front desk..what an absolute delight she is so helpful and friendly we cant thank her enough all staff knowledgeable helpful pointing us im the right direction kept our luggage safe for our last day The only small thing we weren't informed of before coming was the 500 dollar holding fee that was a shock and came out of our spending money. But overall great experience
I stayed at OYO Times Square from 15 January 2026 to 19 January 2026. Booking.com confirmation number: 7843736256226895687. At check-in, I was charged a USD 400 security deposit. At check-out, I was explicitly informed by the front desk that the deposit would be automatically released on the same day. To date, the refund has not been processed. After checkout, I contacted Booking.com, who redirected me to the property directly. When I contacted the hotel reception, the staff member stated that he does not have authority to check deposit refunds and instructed me to contact the head office / general manager, then terminated the call without providing any contact details. Since then, I have made multiple attempts to resolve this issue via emails, phone calls, and official social media channels, but no response or resolution has been provided. This review is being posted to publicly document the unresolved deposit issue and to request immediate intervention from hotel management or OYO corporate support. I request: 1) Immediate release of the USD 400 security deposit, and 2) Written confirmation of the refund transaction. Until this matter is resolved, I cannot recommend this property to future guests. I sincerely hope hotel management addresses this promptly and professionally.
This hotel was in a very poor state and far below what we expected. The rooms were cramped, tired-looking, and not properly maintained. Our first room was especially unpleasant — the bathroom ceiling and upper walls were covered in dozens of dead fruit flies, which was frankly unhygienic. We had booked for four nights through a travel agent, but after just one night we asked to change rooms because the condition was so bad. Although staff moved us fairly quickly, we were told that ceilings are not part of their cleaning routine, which was surprising given how dirty they were. Sadly, the second room wasn’t any better. The bed frame was broken and had been held together with zip ties by maintenance, which made it unstable and uncomfortable. The air conditioning was also extremely noisy, something that seems to be a known issue based on other guests’ reviews. After two nights, we decided to leave and find alternative accommodation. The staff were polite but seemed largely indifferent to the poor state of the hotel. The location was good, but that alone does not make up for the lack of cleanliness and basic maintenance when there are far better options nearby. Do not waste your money, stay somewhere else.
Great hotel with an excellent location, very close to the subway. The staff was extremely polite, friendly, and always willing to help, which made my stay even better. The room was comfortable and clean, and getting around the city was very easy thanks to the nearby public transportation. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.
