Hotel Edison offers a prime location steps from Times Square with exceptional staff hospitality and classic Art Deco charm, but guests frequently report outdated rooms, inconsistent housekeeping, and hidden operational costs.
Could not fault this hotel from start to finish. I read some bad reviews of the hotel before travelling to New York from the UK, so was a little worried the stay was going to be a nightmare. All the staff were polite and efficient at doing their jobs from front of house to cleaners, bar and restaurant staff to bell boys, nothing was ever a trouble. You do pay room tax upon arrival which is around $45 (£34) per night which I believe is the case for all hotels in the city (I may be wrong) they do hold $100 as a deposit on the room. Yes if you are not expecting this it can come as a shock so do understand people's frustrations with this but it didn't bother me. You get a breakfast voucher per person, per night these can be used for a grab and go breakfast downstairs in Bond 45 (you don't pay any extra for this), this is a multiple choice of either Fruit of Pastry then a choice of either two different hot sandwiches, yogurt or hot pancakes then a drink selection of Fresh Juice, bottled water or tea and coffee, all of the options where pretty decent remember this is a grab and go breakfast, its quick simple but very tasty and does the job its intended to. You could also use the vouchers for the restaurant experience which you pay $6.95 extra, it is a basic menu but food was all good but in my opinion the grab and go was the best option for me personally. The restaurants do have a full breakfast, dinner, lunch menus you can pay to eat, as the puplic can walk in off the street to eat and drink in them. We had two bottles of water in our room every day and were not charged extra for them, each floor in the hotel has filtered water stations and ice dispensers to use, if anyone is worried about being charged for bottled water. Rooms were clean, tidy, beds are firm but me and the wife, every night, both got a decent nights sleep (I don't sleep well at home so says something) We stayed during the blizzard and the city was on lockdown, we received a letter of apologies on the morning of said blizzard explaining there was a staff shortage but didn't really notice, again staff were fantastic at making our stay as comfortable and easy going as possible, credit to all the staff for this. We paid to eat and drink in the restaurant once and Bond 45 a few of times and drinks and food were really good in both. The bar staff in Bond 45 are fantastic the cocktails have got a kick 10/10 for the them. We were travelling in a family party of 3 married couples and we all pretty much had the same opinion in regards to the hotel etc. This hotel was only ever booked as a base, somewhere to get our heads down for exploring the city but it exceeded our expectations. Thank you to all the staff at The Hotel Edison for making our trip to New York that much more comfortable and easy going.
This hotel is great but not perfect. Some of the issues we encountered was the huge delays when checking in. Appreciate it was busy, but they should be prepared for this. Alot of the staff were lovely, but there were a handful who were quite miserable - mainly baggage handler. We also found the hotel itself to be very hot which I know in the winter sounds like a silly complaint, but almost too hot to sleep comfortably which we could not seem to fix with using the AC which was also broken. Also heard a constant dripping noise coming from within the wall, possible pipework, which for the first few nights was pretty annoying With the above being said, it is a solid 4 star rating. Great options for the grab & go breakfasts. The gym was brilliant for a hotel gym. Also found the beds very comfy. Locations wise its perfect. You are ever so slightly out of the loudness and constant traffic of time square and its quite quiet despite what other reviews say, however it takes no more than 3 minutes to walk to the heart of times square. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily come back.
Just stayed at the Edison with 10 others to celebrate a birthday and had a 4 day stay. Reception staff in the main are polite as are the security. The location is brilliant, just around from Time Square. Rooms are clean, comfortable but dated and asked for a room change as the room I had was very noisy with air conditioning Units outside. The replacement room was no better. My main gripe was a very rude luggage handler and should be nowhere near dealing with hotel guests. I stood there with my luggage taking my turn to be seen to. Hesaid to me that I need to communicate better. I challenged him and stated its obvious that im waiting for him or another handler to take my cases from me to place in the luggage store. He just became even more rude and very obnoxious. Awful person.
Nice hotel, central location to time square, theatres and not a bad walk to rockfeller and 5th ave. Rooms are small but tolerable, Clean and updated. Secuity to get to rooms was phenomenal. No cost low cost breakfast was a nice bonus. Free wine on Friday while we were there. Wish they would accommodate early check with no cost. Enjoyed the stay, would recommend.
Pretty great hotel. Decent rooms and great location right next to time square and all the Broadway shows. Plenty of fun places right around the hotel. Hotel service was pretty good and gave some free breakfast coupons for a couple restaurants inside the hotel as well as a few places nearby. However Bond 45 inside the hotel was not great. We sat at a table forever, never to be greeted by a server so we decide to do their grab and go breakfast and it was just not good at all. Overall I'd say it was a great stay due to the location alone.
Only positive about this hotel is the location. Times square is on your doorstep. There were hidden charges which we wasnt notified until we got to the hotel. I had already paid 1700 for a nights here. When we arrived we had already been travelling throughout the night and had been up 48 hours. Hotel demanded we pay extra £700 on the spot if we wanted the room key. After arguing this for 2 hours we gave in and paid it as needed sleep. We also booked a broadway show almost £500 for 2 tickets which was cancelled last minute. The room was small the carpets smelt dirty. The bathroom was covered in spilt black gloss paint. The shower was filthy. There was no hot water in the room. The cleaners took our meal vouchers which were meant to be included in our stay. We resorted to buy snacks from shop which needed hot water for noodles hotel refused to fill up for us. We explained our meals had been taken. We were spoken to with little respect I found them very rude and obnoxious. Would not recommend staying here.
My stay at this hotel in Times Square started off frustrating and only got worse. Check-in was extremely disorganized with a very long line, and the service was honestly not great. Staff were unfriendly, and it felt like you had to go out of your way to be overly nice just to receive very mediocre care. The rooms do not come with a microwave or fridge, which is already inconvenient, but you are told you can pay a fee to opt into a microwave. I called at 5 PM to request one. When I returned to my room around 9:30 PM, it still hadn’t been delivered. An hour later, I called again and was told they were trying to give me a fridge instead—claiming that’s what I ordered. I know for a fact that’s not true, and I even have a recording of the call to make sure I wasn’t going crazy. Despite this, no one seemed to care or take responsibility. The lack of attention, accountability, and basic hospitality is really disappointing—especially for a hotel in this price range and location. This is only my first night, and already I would not recommend staying here. There are plenty of other options in NYC that treat guests much better.
The only place we stay in NYC. While we don't necessarily consider ourselves "tourists" because we visit so frequently, the Hotel Edison is the top choice for our entire family when we visit. The location is convenient to all of our favorite little restaurants, it's clean, organized and the price is right. But the best part for all of us is the staff. We've stayed there so often that our favorite bellman, Gio, recognizes us and the kids. He's just wonderful and we always look forward to seeing him (and, of course, our dear friend at the front desk who is so accommodating to send up coffee whenever we run out!) Thank you, Hotel Edison, for making Gracie's Sweet 16 birthday trip so special!
Fehat at Hotel Edison was absolutely wonderful. He was personable, kind, knowledgeable, and very professional from the moment we interacted with him. He made us feel welcome right away and genuinely enhanced our stay. On top of that, he had a great sense of humor and made us laugh, which made the experience even more memorable. We truly enjoyed him and hope to see him again on our next visit to NYC! We had a wonderful time.
Hotel over all is a mess. Location is pretty close to the center of it all. But the hotel itself, much less than what I expected. Booked a room with a terrace and guess what?! Couldn't access the terrace as it was locked, front desk couldn't say anything besides "we can't unlock it". When asked if they would, or why, it was "we can't". --- that will next move onto a dispute with our bank as we have attempted to resolve this with no resolution. We simply, did not get what we paid for. Spot in the corner of the room has water leaking from an access panel. Called the front desk to notify them. Never heard anything back, they only responded with okay, thanks for telling us. Uh. Wouldn't maintenance come or anything? Nope. I easily would have booked another hotel had I known this would be an issue Door guy is nice but that's roughly about it. A bear in the gift shop, $44 ??? found the same at one of the I love Ny shops for $11. Ah!
