Guests praise the Kimpton Theta for its spacious, stylish rooms and exceptional staff service, particularly highlighting the friendly front desk team and evening happy hour. However, reviews highlight significant variability in service quality, with some guests reporting rudeness and billing disputes. The central location near Times Square is a major advantage, though noise complaints are frequent due to the busy surrounding area.
Bad experience at Kimpton Theta New York. I had already prepaid for my stay, but the hotel charged my credit card again and never returned the money. When I called, the staff was rude and even hung up on me. Very dishonest. The stay itself was also unpleasant. The room, towels, and bathroom were not clean, I saw small flies, and the room was extremely noisy at night. The AC made strange sounds, and even without it on, there was still constant noise. Overall, poor service, poor cleanliness, and a billing issue. I would not recommend this hotel.
The hotel was a great location for our visit. The check in was the least friendly part of our visit. Not very helpful not welcoming. The people who serve coffee in the morning are thoughtful and friendly. The people at the door are welcoming and helpful. The housekeeping crew did great. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable. HVAC is a bit loud.
Beautiful hotel with clean, well organized room. Staff was welcoming and helpful as well. Love that coffee is complementary in the morning. Wi-fi worked the whole time and the technology is up to date and soaked as well. The location is fabulous - 1 block from. Whole Foods and Starbucks. the Foot Emporium grocery is right on the corner. My only dissatisfaction was the fitness room. It is tiny. If you’re a gym rat, be prepared for minimal equipment and cramped space. 2 treadmills, 2 Peloton bikes, 2 ellipticals, 1 bench, 1 barbell set 10lb-50lb and a couple yoga pats and balls. Nice place, just don’t go for the gym.
Stayed at the Kimpton Theta in New York and had a really great experience overall. The room was huge by NYC standards, super comfortable, and honestly felt like a luxury after long days in the city. The service throughout the hotel was excellent — friendly, helpful, and professional. The only downside was that the front desk/check-in process was a bit slow, especially at busier times. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable. A big plus: the heating was amazing, which matters a lot in the middle of winter. And the location is unbeatable — perfect for Broadway, Times Square, and getting around Manhattan easily. Would definitely stay again!
I can not say enough good things. Staff from the doorman to the front desk to housekeeping were excellent and went above and beyond at every turn. The staff was friendly, funny, and really stood out from many of our NYC stays. The location of 50th/8th was perfect, and the proximity to Hell's Kitchen/46th St was all we needed for dining. Rooms were spacious for a family of 4 and had everything we needed. Bravo to the welcoming staff!
We recently stayed at Kimpton Theta New York - Times Square and unfortunately the level of customer service and hospitality was extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, we felt unwelcome. No one offered to help with our luggage despite traveling with kids. The doorman did not greet us and only pressed the automatic door button. At check-in, the front desk staff member who assisted us was unfriendly and unwelcoming. During our stay, the lack of service continued. On a rainy day, we asked the front desk for an extra umbrella for our family of four. We were given a broken umbrella. When we asked for another, the front desk attendant rolled his eyes and told us that “all the umbrellas are broken,” while reminding us we would be charged if it wasn’t returned. We stayed through Christmas, and not once were we greeted in the lobby or wished a Merry Christmas. Something that felt especially noticeable during the holidays. The only time the doorman acknowledged us was on the morning of checkout, when he asked if we were leaving and suggested a car service to the airport. When we declined and chose to call an Uber instead, the interaction ended abruptly. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was noticing that the tone and manner in which we were spoken to felt different from how other non-Asian guests around us were treated. The doorman we saw daily was consistently unfriendly and at times even rolled his eyes while our children waited by the door. We have stayed at many IHG hotels and have never felt this level of disregard or lack of hospitality. This was shocking, disappointing, and not what we expect from a Kimpton property. Unfortunately, this will be our last time staying at this location when visiting New York City.
I stay at this hotel every time I come to NYC and it is a solid pick!!! The front desk staff are incredible and helpful. Bellman is also amazing. Absolutely perfect location! Ernest at the front desk is the sweetest. Updated, clean rooms. Quiet and spacious. Beautiful lobby. Can’t recommend them enough.
I have stayed at many Kimpton properties over the years and always appreciated their boutique standards, so this experience at Kimpton Theta NYC was a first for me. Before checking in, I specifically called the hotel to confirm a pet-free room, as I am allergic to pet hair and can develop breathing issues. I was told this would not be a problem. However, upon arrival, I was informed that pet-free rooms do not actually exist here, but that the rooms are “deep cleaned.” Unfortunately, the moment I opened the door, I was met with a strong smell that clearly indicated pet residue. Within minutes, I began to feel my breathing tighten. At that point, staying was not an option for me— the medical bill would be higher than the hotel bill. I checked out in less than 10 minutes. To be fair, the manager handled the situation professionally. Though I had booked a non-refundable special rate for two nights, he followed up with a phone call and refunded one night. I appreciate that effort, and I agree it was a fair resolution under the circumstances. However, travelers with allergies should be aware: This hotel cannot guarantee a pet-free environment, despite what may be implied during booking. On the other hand, this is probably a perfect hotel for pet owners. If you travel with pets, you might genuinely love this property. But for guests with allergies or sensitivities like mine, I would recommend choosing another hotel.
I usually travel too much to be bothered to write a review, but I had such an amazing stay I feel compelled to share. We booked early and got a great rate for 4 people. My friends could not believe what a great deal I was able to find. The other hotels in the area were 200-300 more for 2 nights. I was able to wow them a little bit with my IHG member benefits which included early check in, late check out, and some market credits. The staff is SO nice, from check in to check out. They made sure we had everything we needed and were very prompt when we asked for something. Especially Noeyuh! KT was clean, very well located, and we didn’t have any issues with noises despite being so close to a very touristy area. The rooftop is great but we didn’t spend much time there. The Christmas decor was beautiful and made the whole lobby very inviting and cozy when the weather was beginning to turn. My only bummer is they were out of the KT tote bags and were not able to sell the display to me. And if that is my biggest complaint, you know it was a good stay.
Nice foyer, great coffee booth. Rooms spacious. Bathrooms modern refurbed. Got a bit shabby chic in hallways. Good tv with lots of movies and tv shows. Good bedding. Room with sofa like a lounge and big window. Lots of cupboard space. Location is a bit overwhelmed especially at night with sight see-ers. That’s the downside. But easy to get to meetings and subway. Rockefeller is 10 min walk. Is near all the theatres so can get home quick.
